    And they’re off!

The Spring Racing Carnival is upon us, signalling the start of a very busy social season.

Whether you’re headed to the races or have numerous events and parties filling up your calendar, there’s

no doubt you’ll be looking for a new outfit (or two) to wear.

I’m a big believer that style doesn’t have to cost a fortune, which is why I’m so happy to have teamed up

with Katies to talk special occasion wear.

The spring dress collection is full of classic yet on-trend items that will see you beyond just one wear.

They’re the types of dresses that are perfect for the races, a party or an event. And there’s a style to suit

Katies Dress Buyer, Fiona perfect sums up the design ethos of the new range saying, “a flattering fit

never goes out of style, that’s why we’ve designed our spring dress collection with defined waistlines,

universally flattering hemlines and chic ruffle details to create easy-to-wear pieces with timeless appeal.”

Two styles stand out for me this season and they are floral print and texture.

    • • A floral print is gorgeous for spring and can act as the perfect camouflage to hid those not-so-

      favourite bits.

    • • Make sure that you’re wearing the print (and not the other way around).

    • • Pick up on one colour from the print and use it in your accessories, together with a

      complementary metallic.

    • • A plain colour with texture adds an element of interest.

    • • This season, my favourite texture is lace because it’s timeless and elegant.

    • • Add a personal touch to your outfit by pairing a black dress with your favourite colour and

When it comes to shoes, your best bet is a nude strappy heel – whether it’s stiletto, block or wedge. It will

elongate your legs and match just about everything. It’s the heel to see you through the entire party

The same can be said for a neutral bag. It will be just as versatile for different outfits and events, and can

be used any day of the week.

Speaking of handbags, if you’re headed to the races, pack your handbag with items that MacGyver would

be proud of. Here’s my essentials list to make sure you’ll look as fabulous at the end of the day as you did

    at the start:

    • • Band-Aids

    • • Bobby pins

    • • Travel sized hairspray

    • • Mini perfume

    • • Mineral powder

    • • Lipstick

    • • Lash glue + cotton buds (if you’re wearing fake lashes)

You might not be able to fit all of those items plus phone and purse in your bag, but split them up

amongst you and your friends and you’ll all be set!

They key thing to remember when it comes to the races (or any special occasion, really) is that it’s a great

chance to dress up – not play dress ups – so do stick to the dress code but also add a touch of

personality to your outfit. This way, you’ll feel comfortable and confident.

Back your personal style and you’ll be a guaranteed winner!
